Burton, Kansas, US is a small unincorporated community in Cowley County. It was established in the late 19th century and named after an early settler, John Burton. The town's growth was largely due to the arrival of the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in 1887. Burton's notable landmark is the Burton School, which was built in 1925 and served as the community's school until its closure in 1966. Today, Burton is a quiet rural community with a rich history.
