Canaan, Connecticut, established in 1738, is a town in Litchfield County. It was originally part of the town of Sharon and became an independent entity in 1740. The town is named after the biblical land of Canaan. Canaan is known for its historic district, the Canaan Union Station, which was built in 1872 and is a notable example of Victorian architecture. The station is still in use today and serves as a stop for the Housatonic Railroad.
