It was originally named "Deuel's Creek" after a pioneer leader, but was later renamed to its current name due to its central location between the cities of Farmington and Bountiful. The city has a rich agricultural history and was once known for its successful sugar beet farming. Today, Centerville is a residential suburb with a population of approximately 17,000 people.
