Cumberland, Indiana, US is a town in Hancock County, established in 1836. It was named after the Cumberland River in Tennessee. The town was a stop along the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad. The National Road, now known as US 40, runs through the town. The Cumberland Covered Bridge, built in 1837, is a notable landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
