French Lick is a town in Orange County, Indiana, US. It was named after a natural salt lick that attracted wildlife, including bison, near a spring. The town is known for its historic French Lick Springs Hotel, which opened in 1845 and became a popular resort due to its mineral waters' supposed healing properties. The hotel hosted several notable guests, including 27 US presidents. In 1946, the town became home to the first casino in the Midwest, the French Lick Springs Hotel and Casino, which contributed to its revitalization.
