It was named after Glen Riddle Farm in Berks County, the estate of the community's developer, Charles M. Schwab. The town was established in the early 20th century as a residential community for the employees of the Lingenfelter Coal Company. A notable attraction in Glen Riddle is the historic Cowanshannock Stone Bridge, a 100-foot-long, triple-arch sandstone bridge built in 1870.
