Hudson, South Dakota, located in Lincoln County, was founded in 1880. It was named after New York City newspaper editor Charles A. Dana, whose pen name was "Hudson." The town was originally a stagecoach and railroad stop. The most notable landmark in Hudson is the historic Hudson House, a restored hotel that was built in 1906 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, Hudson is a small rural community with a population of around 350 people.
