Mattawan is a village located in Van Buren County, Michigan, US. It was first settled in the mid-1800s and incorporated as a village in 1909. The town is named after a local Native American chief, Wabano, whose name means "eastern light." Mattawan is known for its annual Apple Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors each year. The town is also home to the Mattawan Consolidated Schools, which serves students from several surrounding townships.
