Orcas, Washington is a small town located on Orcas Island in San Juan County. The island was named by Spanish explorer Francisco de Eliza in 1791 after the Lequeos, a native tribe from Vancouver Island whose name sounded like "orcas" to the Spanish. The town of Orcas was incorporated in 1905 and is known for its natural beauty and outdoor recreational opportunities, including the popular Moran State Park with its scenic hiking trails and Mount Constitution, the highest point in the San Juan Islands. Orcas is also home to a thriving arts community and a number of small businesses and farms.
