Greenville, Rhode Island, US is a village in the town of Smithfield. It was established in the early 18th century and was originally known as "Ninigret". The name was changed to Greenville in 1816, in honor of the revolutionary war general, Nathanael Greene. The village is home to the historic Wyndham Estate, a 1730's farmhouse that is now a museum. Greenville is known for its rural character and scenic countryside.
