Eddyville, Kentucky, US is the county seat of Lyon County. Established in 1811, it was named after early settler John L. Eddy. The town is home to the Kentucky Dam, a notable landmark and the largest dam by volume in the Eastern United States, completed in 1944. Eddyville also houses the Kentucky State Penitentiary, one of the oldest maximum-security prisons in the US, which opened in 1819.
