Almont, MI, US is a village located in Lapeer County, about 40 miles north of Detroit. It was founded in 1833 and originally named "Newburg," but was later renamed to Almont in 1846 in honor of the Mexican general, Juan Almonte. The village is known for its well-preserved historic district, which includes over 200 structures from the 19th and early 20th centuries. A notable landmark is the Almont Depot, a former railway station that was built in 1886 and now serves as a museum and visitor center.
