Battle Mountain, Nevada, US is a city in Lander County. It was established in 1866 as a stagecoach station and grew with the arrival of the railroad in 1870. The city is named after a battle between the Shoshone and Bannock tribes that occurred in the area. Battle Mountain is known for the annual "World Human Powered Speed Challenge" where cyclists attempt to break the land speed record on a specially designed bicycle. The city's economy is based on mining, particularly gold, and agriculture, with Lander County being one of the top producers of beef in the state.
