Bishop, Texas, located in Nolan County, was established in 1903 as a railroad town. It was named after S.H. Bishop, a superintendent for the Kansas City, Mexico and Orient Railway. The town served as a shipping point for cotton, cattle, and oil. Bishop is home to the famous "Tallest Water Tower in Texas," which stands 408 feet tall and was built in 1957. Today, Bishop continues to be an agricultural and oil-producing community with a population of approximately 3,300.
