Bourbonnais, Illinois, US is a village located in Kankakee County, founded in the 1830s by Frenchman François Bourbonnais Sr. The village was originally a trading post for local Native American tribes. In the late 19th century, Bourbonnais became a hub for the railroad industry. Today, it is home to Olivet Nazarene University and the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie, a notable landmark and the first federal tallgrass prairie preserve in the United States.
