Heber, California, US is an unincorporated community in Imperial County. It was established in 1903 as a railroad siding for the San Diego and Arizona Railway. The community was named after Heber Atwood, a construction engineer for the railway. Heber's economy was historically based on agriculture, particularly cotton and alfalfa. A notable attraction in Heber is the Heber Railroad Depot, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
