The city is home to the Irondale Cafe, a notable landmark and restaurant famous for its "mile-high" meringue pies and being the inspiration for the Whistle Stop Cafe in Fannie Flagg's novel "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe."
