Piney Point, Maryland is a small unincorporated community in St. Mary's County. Established in the 17th century, it is one of the oldest communities in the state. The community is named after the nearby Piney Point Lighthouse, which was built in 1836 and is now a museum and a notable landmark. During the Civil War, Piney Point was the site of a Confederate prison camp. Today, the community is known for its scenic waterfront views and recreational opportunities, including boating and fishing.
