Monticello, Kentucky, US is a small town in Wayne County, established in the early 19th century. It was named after Thomas Jefferson's plantation, Monticello, in Virginia. The town was incorporated in 1817 and became the county seat. Monticello is home to the Wayne County Historical Society and Museum, which features exhibits on local history, including the Civil War and Native American artifacts. The museum is located in the former Wayne County Courthouse, built in 1899, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
