Capital One makes it easy to set up email and text alerts each time a transaction occurs on your credit card or bank account. Purchase alerts are helpful for catching fraudulent purchases. If an unauthorized transaction is attempted on one of your accounts, a real-time purchase alert will let you know right away that something is wrong.

About Capital One

Capital One has been around since 1988. The bank was initially focused on credit cards, eventually branching out into auto loans and traditional banking services. Capital One operates around 750 bank branches around the United States as well as 30 cafe-style locations that mix banking with coffee and snacks.

Today, Capital One offers a variety of credit cards, checking accounts, savings accounts, auto loans, business financing, and commercial banking services. The bank agreed to acquire Discover in early 2024.

Set up Capital One purchase alerts on a PC

  1. Log into your Capital One account at capitalone.com.
  2. At the top right corner of the screen, click on the profile icon with your name.
  3. Scroll down to the Security and Fraud section, then expand the Instant Purchase Notifications option.
  4. Set the amount to 0.00 to alert you of all transactions, or a higher value if you only care about larger transactions.
  5. Choose whether you want alerts sent as emails, text messages, or both. If you set up a secondary email address in addition to your primary email address, you'll be able to select one or both.

Set up Capital One purchase alerts using the mobile app

  1. Open and log into the Capital One app on your smartphone.
  2. Tap the Profile button at the bottom right of the screen.
  3. Tap the Alerts & notifications option.
  4. Under the Account Alerts section, tap the account for which you want to enable purchase alerts.
  5. Under the Security and Fraud section, tap the Instant Purchase Notifications option.
  6. Set the amount to 0.00 to alert you of all transactions, or a higher value if you only care about larger transactions.
  7. Choose whether you want alerts sent as emails, text messages, and/or mobile push notifications. If you set up a secondary email address in addition to your primary email address, you'll be able to choose one or both.

That's it! Every time you swipe your Capital One credit card or make an online purchase, you'll receive an alert within seconds.

Do more with purchase alerts from Capital One

Capital One's purchase alerts are useful for catching fraud, but they won't help you keep track of your spending. When you buy something on Amazon, you might want to know how much you've spent there so far this month. Or when you order takeout, you might want to keep tabs on your weekly restaurant spending.

With Latwy, real-time alerts become far more useful and informative. They can be delivered via email, Telegram, Discord, or Slack.
