The town was named after Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden, a British statesman and judge. Camden is home to the Dentzel Carousel at the Madison County Fairgrounds, a historic carousel listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town has a rich history in agriculture, particularly cotton and soybeans, and is part of the Mississippi Delta region.
