Creating a view that shows only certain properties in Notion is a powerful way to focus on specific information and reduce visual clutter in your databases. This feature allows you to customize what data appears in your workspace, making it easier to analyze and work with relevant information.
To create a property-filtered view, start by opening your database and clicking the "+ New" button next to existing views at the top. Choose your preferred view type - table view works best for property customization, though you can also use board, timeline, or gallery views. Once you've created the new view, click "Properties" in the top toolbar to access the property selection panel.
In the Properties panel, you'll see a list of all available properties in your database. Simply toggle off the properties you don't want to display by clicking their checkboxes. The properties you leave enabled will be the only ones visible in this view. You can also reorder properties by dragging them up or down in the list, which will change their column order in your view.
Beyond property selection, you can enhance your view with filters to show only specific records. Click "Filter" in the toolbar and add conditions based on property values. For example, you might filter to show only tasks assigned to you or projects with a specific status. Combining property selection with filtering creates highly targeted views that surface exactly the information you need.
This approach offers significant advantages for productivity and organization. You can create multiple specialized views for different purposes - perhaps one showing only essential project details for stakeholders, and another displaying technical specifications for your team. Each view maintains its own property and filter settings, so you can switch between perspectives instantly.
However, keep in mind that hiding properties doesn't delete the underlying data - it simply changes what's visible in that particular view. Users with database access can still see all properties in other views or by creating their own. Additionally, be mindful that too many specialized views can become overwhelming, so focus on creating views that serve clear, distinct purposes for your workflow.
