What are the recent changes to Notion AI pricing?

Notion recently implemented significant changes to its AI pricing structure that affect how users access and pay for AI features across their workspaces. The most notable shift is the move from workspace-wide AI access to a per-member pricing model, fundamentally changing how teams budget for AI functionality.

Under the new pricing structure, Notion AI costs $10 per member per month when billed annually, or $12 per member per month on a monthly billing cycle. This represents a departure from the previous model where AI features could be enabled for an entire workspace with a single subscription. Now, each team member who wants to use AI features requires their own individual AI subscription.

For small teams and individual users, this change can actually be cost-effective. A solo user or small team of two to three people will find the new per-member pricing manageable and potentially more affordable than some competitors. However, larger organizations face significantly higher costs under this model. A team of 20 members would now pay $200-240 monthly for AI access, compared to what was previously a single workspace fee.

The change also affects workspace administration. Workspace owners and admins must now manage AI subscriptions on a per-member basis, adding complexity to user management and billing oversight. This granular control does offer some advantages, allowing organizations to selectively provide AI access only to team members who need it most, potentially reducing overall costs for larger teams.

Existing users with the previous AI pricing model have been grandfathered in temporarily, but Notion has indicated these legacy plans will eventually transition to the new structure. New users and workspaces are immediately subject to the per-member pricing.

The pricing change reflects Notion's positioning of AI as a premium feature while aligning with industry trends toward per-user SaaS pricing models. For organizations heavily invested in Notion's ecosystem, the decision becomes whether the AI features justify the increased per-member cost. Teams should evaluate their actual AI usage patterns and consider whether all members truly need AI access, as selective deployment could help manage costs while still providing value to key users who benefit most from AI-assisted productivity features.
